The workplace should always be a safe space. Employees should be able to turn up expecting nothing more than to be able to do the job they were hired for. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and unexpected incidents do occur, including violence.
Violence within the workplace is not something that can be avoided all together. Disgruntled or ex-employees may decide to turn violent if they believe they have been treated unfairly. Between 2016 & 2017, the Crime Survey for England and Wales reported that there were 642,000 incidents within the workplace. Furthermore, in 2017 alone, there were just over 250,000 assaults and just over 350,000 threats. Therefore, it is highly important that measures are put in place to try and mitigate these incidents.
