 The Customer

Action on Hearing Loss is a charity that works on behalf of 9 million people who are deaf or have hearing loss in the UK.

The charity has been helping people with hearing loss for more than 100 years and have changed the lives of millions since they started. Along with being involved in life-changing research, they are also at the forefront of raising awareness of deafness, supporting deaf people into work, providing specialist-care services or additional needs and making a lasting change in education for deaf children.

The Challenge

The charity employs over a 1,000 members of staff and volunteers, covering more than 80 locations across the UK.

They provide support for people who are deaf, deafblind or have hearing loss with additional support needs, including:

– Learning/physical difficulties

– Mental ill health

– Autistic-spectrum disorders

Due to the nature of their role, staff often find themselves working alone whilst carrying out house visits or providing care for the most vulnerable with challenging behaviour.

It was important for Action on Hearing Loss to provide a robust safety system for their lone working staff. This is why they’ve utilised the services offered by Guardian24. With our latest BS 8484:2016 accreditation, we can even bypass the 999 system to provide a faster level 1 police response. They can also speak to the user via their device to ensure they are safe or to reassure them.
